MADISON — Matt Hensler, who led his Badger High School football team to an undefeated season and its first state football title, has been named coach of the year by the Associated Press.
The Badgers of Lake Geneva had never been to a state title game before this season, but when they did, they made the most of it.
Badger went on to defeat Waunakee 34-33 in the WIAA Division 2 title game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison in the team’s first trip to state.
Hensler was back on the sideline for the game after having a heart attack during the Level 3 game two weeks earlier.
