LAKE GENEVA — Rather than its traditional Wednesday afternoon start, sculptors will take to their blocks Thursday morning as the 2024 U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition gets under way.

The challenge for this year’s teams will be the warm temperatures, expected to reach the 40s by the end of the week.

Organizers hope the compressed time frame will help teams battle the softening snow.

Forms for the 15 teams were poured earlier in the week and are being kept cold thanks to donated insulated concrete blankets.

The event takes place in front of the Riviera Boathouse in downtown Lake Geneva and in Flat Iron Park along Wrigley Drive.

Snow sculpting begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, with tools down promptly at 11 a.m. Saturday.

People’s Choice voting runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
