LAKE GENEVA — The Walworth County Public Health Department has officially closed the Williams Bay Beach, Fontana Beach, Lake Geneva Public Beach and the beach at Big Foot Beach State Park following reports of a toxic algae bloom.

In Linn Township, Linn Pier Road Beach and Hillside Beach are closed.

If you have symptoms that include: sore throat, coughing, diarrhea, fever, or nausea after swimming in the lake we recommend contacting your local healthcare provider.

The Geneva Lake Environmental Agency, along with Walworth County Public Health, is actively sampling the algae blooms Friday to determine the strain of Cyanobacteria and its toxicity level.

Big Foot Beach State Park remains open.

The bloom is currently identified on the east end of the Lake. Investigation is being carried out lakewide to ensure the safety of the public. Public safety is our number one concern.

Toxic algae blooms contain Cyanobacteria which produce cyanotoxin, a neurotoxin which even in small concentrations can be highly dangerous to humans.
