Invenergy is considering an area west of Darien to site the plant, which likely will be about 50 acres and go online in 2027.

TOWN OF DARIEN — Illinois based power provider Invenergy on Monday filed an engineering permit with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, the first official step in the permitting process for a new natural gas power plant near Darien.

Called the Foundry Ridge Energy Center, the facility is a proposed 303-megawatt natural gas project that the company says will generate American-made energy to meet the nation’s growing demand for cleaner, more affordable, reliable electricity, while creating jobs and investing in local communities.

If approved, the facility is expected to go online in 2027.

Currently, the company is considering an area west of Darien to site the plant, which likely will be less than 50 acres in size.

Invenergy, which recently completed installation of a solar power field north of Darien, is the largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of clean energy solutions. The Darien Solar Energy Center, now owned by We Energies and Madison Gas & Electric.

In a news release, the company says it has successfully developed more than 200 projects, including solar, wind, transmission infrastructure, clean hydrogen, natural gas power generation and advanced energy storage projects across the world.

Headquartered in Illinois, Invenergy says it invests almost $600 million annually in the home communities where its projects are located.
