LAKE GENEVA — Dozens of artworks by members of the Geneva Lake Arts Foundation are being exhibited in the newest show at Gallery 223 in Lake Geneva.

The Summer Show opened June 5 and closes July 20 at the gallery, which is owned and operated by the nonprofit foundation and is located at 223 Broad St. The hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday-Monday.

Included in the exhibit are such media as painting, drawing, photography, pottery, glass, jewelry, sculpture, mixed media, weaving, fiber, and wood.

Paintings by lifelong artists Danielle Taylor of Lake Geneva and Sandra Fink May of Richmond, Ill., are included in the exhibit. May also has two metal sculptures and pieces of jewelry on display.

Taylor stated she paints in oils and acrylics with palette knives that result in textural and three-dimensional qualities to her works. She also sculps with plaster on some of her pieces before painting them.

“I paint because I like looking at beautiful things,” Taylor said. “I’ve always enjoyed nature and going on walks. Painting is a way I can prolong that experience. It brings me peace, and I like sharing that feeling with people.”

Taylor, who works on her art full time, moved to Lake Geneva from Montana eight years ago and joined the foundation. “This is such a cool way to connect with the art community,” she said.

May also is a full-time mixed media artist. She uses repurposed and recycled materials as well as stone in her sculptures, acrylics to do her abstract expressionist paintings, and assorted items for her jewelry for men and women.

“What I like best about art is the circle of concept, creating, and sharing,” May said. “Most of my paintings come from trips I have taken. I come back with inspiration to do art.”
