WILLIAMS BAY — Due to high nitrite levels, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued a “Do Not Drink” order to the Village of Williams Bay Water System.

Village water consumption is not safe at this time. Do not drink, mix baby formula or brush teeth with village tap water until further notice.

ONLY DRINK BOTTLED WATER. Village water CAN be used for bathing and washing of dishes

According to a news release, the village has partnered with the Williams Bay School District to provide a water distribution site at the Williams Bay School.

Residents will be able to pick up bottled water from the School; the time/date will be provided on the Village website and the WB Police social media page as soon as water is available.

The Village was informed by WDNR of a potential issue on Monday, August 25 and in response the Village ordered water tests from various locations throughout the Village.

The lab results of these water samples came back late Wednesday, August 27 confirming nitrite levels within the water distribution system exceeded the maximum level allowed.

Based upon these water samples, the WDNR informed the Village that they would be issuing a Do Not Drink order for the Village.

The Village received the enclosed order late evening Wednesday, August 27.

This order will remain in effect until the nitrite levels throughout the system are acceptable and below the maximum threshold.

The short-term remedial process will take some time with the hope that the order will be lifted within a couple of weeks.

The Village Board invites all residents to attend the Board Meeting at Williams Bay School on Tuesday, September 2 to hear additional details and updates and have your questions answered.
