LAKE GENEVA — The 31st annual Winterfest will return to the shores of Geneva Lake this week, featuring a national competition of artistry and skill.

The event, presented by Discover Wisconsin, is scheduled to run from Jan. 28 through Feb. 1 at Riviera Plaza and Flat Iron Park.

According to a news release, the festival serves as the home of America’s Snow Sculpting Invitational.

The competition features 15 teams of artists from across the United States and abroad.

Work on the sculptures is set to begin Wednesday and will continue through Saturday.

The finished sculptures will remain on public display through Sunday, or as long as weather conditions allow them to stay frozen.

The event is free for the public to attend and view.

In addition to the central sculpting competition, the festival includes a variety of seasonal activities throughout the downtown area.

Planned attractions include an ice sculpture walk, beach bonfires and live entertainment.
