ELKHORN — The family of an Elkhorn woman is raising money for the 20-year-old’s funeral after she was struck and killed last Sunday by a commuter train while returning from Illinois.

Lana Crawford was struck about 3:30 p.m. at the crossing at Smith and Wood streets, adjacent to the Palatine station, according to Metra Police.

She was preparing to graduate from cosmetology school at Gateway Technical College in January, but now her family is trying to raise money for her funeral.

Lana’s mother, Anna Crawford, told TMJ4 that her daughter was visiting her grandmother in Palatine and had made the Metra trip many times before.

She recently made honors with a 3.3 GPA and had made many new friends along her journey, her family wrote in the GoFundMe.

“She’s always been a fun and silly person to have around. Lana was absolutely fearless and so strong … she would want all of us to be that way too,” they wrote.
