LAKE GENEVA — A significant winter storm is possible Thursday afternoon into Friday, that could bring heavy snow and strong winds to Walworth County from Delavan to Elkhorn and Lake Geneva.

Blowing and drifting snow could make road travel very difficult in Northeast Wisconsin. Air travel will be greatly affected, according to the National Weather Service in Sullivan.

Decent winter travel conditions to the Walworth County end Thursday morning and don’t return until Saturday on Christmas Eve.

winter storm watch already has been issued by the National Weather Service for counties in western and central Wisconsin.

A strong low-pressure system is expected to move through the mid-part of Wisconsin Thursday, bringing with it heavy snow.

But the most significant travel hazards will be Friday on the back end of the storm.

That’s when forecasters say blowing and drifting snow could cause whiteout conditions and make road travel impossible.
