LAKE GENEVA — Phil Bayly’s newest “Murder on Skis” mystery unfolds in the ski country of Lake Geneva and in Chicago. “A Small Mountain Murder” was released Nov. 7.
A celebrity meets with a fiery death. Police apply the heat, but can they stop a cold-blooded killer?
Three-time American Fiction Award finalist, Phil Bayly weaves his story around winter at small hills and small towns.
“Wisconsin is where I learned to ski,” Bayly says. He grew up in suburban Chicago. “Wilmot, Alpine Valley, Majestic Hills, Little Switzerland, Four Lakes, Mt. Fuji.”
“Those are some of the places my family skied in Wisconsin. I still love to ski small hills across the country, like Howelsen Hill in Steamboat and the U.S. Military Academy’s hill at West Point in New York,” Bayly said in a news release. “To me, they are all like visiting the nation’s great battlefields. I get to walk in the footsteps of men and women who did remarkable things.”
“A Small Mountain Murder” follows Television reporter JC Snow from Colorado to Wisconsin to report on the disappearance of a Colorado ski industry executive.
JC encounters a crusading newspaper journalist who exposes politicians when they betray the public trust. It all seems to hit a hot button for a killer with a cold heart.
This is the 6th novel in Bayly’s award winning “Murder on Skis” series, following “The Man Who Had 9 Lives,” which just won a silver medal at the CIPA Colorado Book Awards.
Bayly was an anchor and reporter in television and radio for over four decades, beginning his career in Colorado and ending it in New York. His novels include some of his real-life adventures.
Bayly grew up outside Chicago in Evanston. He graduated from Colorado State University. He now lives in Upstate New York with his wife.
“You never forget the small mountain where you first learned to ski or snowboard,” Bayly says. “It’s like your first kiss.”
“I spent a lot of time in Wisconsin when I was growing up. My family rented a place at Sister Bay. I visited the Wisconsin Dells. I went to the great Milwaukee Zoo and a Brewers game. I went to summer camp at Lannon Fields. I rode horses there and went swimming every day,” Bayly says of his childhood. “It’s where I kissed my first girl.”
“A Small Mountain Murder” is a tale of madness in the Midwest. It will keep readers intrigued ‘til the cows come home.
“A Small Mountain Murder” is available for sale at independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and all popular online sites.
