WALWORTH — Two people are dead following a fiery crash between two vehicles Friday night just outside of the village of Walworth.

According to a news release, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a report shortly before midnight Friday of a two-vehicle crash located at US Highway 14 and State Line Road just south of the village of Walworth.

The Communications Center was told the two vehicles had collided and then subsequently struck a house at the intersection, and one vehicle was on fire.

Investigator say a 20-year-old man was driving west on State Line Rd and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at Highway 14, striking the vehicle that was driving north on Highway 14.

The Communications Center sent law enforcement and fire/EMS units to the scene.

Emergency units arrived on the scene to find that fire had engulfed the vehicle. The fire extended to the house, and both were extinguished. The residence was occupied, but no injuries were sustained by any occupant.

The vehicle that caught fire was occupied by a driver and a passenger.

The Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced death on scene, according to the news release.

Names are being withheld at this time pending proper notification.

The driver of the second vehicle was treated for serious injuries and flown by a medical helicopter from the scene to an area hospital. The roadway was closed during the scene for investigation.

This crash is being investigated by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Walworth County District Attorney’s office.
