WALWORTH COUNTY — A 68-year-old Town of Lyons woman died Tuesday night following a head-on collision on County Road A in the Town of Sugar Creek.

According to a news release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were sent to the crash site east of McCabe Road at approximately 6:20 p.m.

Investigators believe a 30-year-old man from Algonquin, Illinois, was driving westbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle traveling eastbound.

The eastbound vehicle was driven by the 68-year-old woman from Lyons and with a 74-year-old female passenger from Elkhorn. Medical personnel treated three injured people at the scene before they were transported to area hospitals.

Both drivers were flown by helicopter to medical facilities, and the passenger was transported by ambulance. The woman from Lyons was pronounced dead at 9:24 p.m. by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the incident. Assisting agencies included the Whitewater Fire and EMS Department, UW Health Med Flight and the Walworth County Department of Public Works, which helped close the road in both directions during the investigation.

Authorities are withholding the names of those involved pending the notification of next of kin.
