RACINE — Incumbent 1st District Congressman Bryan Steil has a Democratic challenger in the fall election.
Lorenzo Santos of Racine is running to represent the district that currently covers Racine, Kenosha, most of Walworth except for East Troy and portions of Rock and Milwaukee counties.
He will hold a virtual town hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2023 on his Facebook page HERE where viewers can ask questions.
Lorenzo, a resident of downtown Racine, is a 2013 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, serves as an emergency manager for Racine County, an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve and is the Chair of the Young Democrats of Wisconsin.
“I’m running because we’ve seen fundamental civil and human rights systematically taken away these past few years and I’m not going to stand by and let that continue to happen,” Santos said in a news release.
“I believe in a woman’s right to choose, that in the richest country on earth, anyone that wants healthcare should have it, that voters should choose their elected officials, not the other way around,” He said.
Santos says that workers should be paid a fair wage, children should be provided with a quality education and keep them safe while they’re getting one.
Santos’ campaign will focus on reproductive rights, healthcare, voting rights, worker’s rights, jobs, manufacturing, education, gun control, public safety and climate change, according to the news release.
