ELKHORN — One student was taken to the hospital and another was evaluated for a headache on the scene after a school bus and car crashed Wednesday after school near Elkhorn.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office received a report shortly before 3 p.m. of a vehicle crash on State Highway 11 at Interstate 43 in the Town of Lafayette.

The crash involved a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 2016 school bus operated by Durham School Services LP.

The school bus was transporting students from the Elkhorn Area School District.

Initial reports indicated no students were injured because of the crash, but one student was later transported from the scene by the Elkhorn Area Fire Department to a local hospital.

A second student was evaluated by the Fire Department for a headache.

The driver of the Hyundai was a 42 year-old woman from East Troy who was transported to an area hospital by the Elkhorn Area Fire Department for minor injuries.

A minor passenger in the Hyundai was not injured.

The driver of the school bus, a 68-year-old Lake Geneva man, was not injured.

Students were transported to the Elkhorn Area Middle School where they were reunited with their parents and guardians.

The initial investigation indicates the crash resulted due to a turning maneuver and remains under investigation at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Elkhorn Area Fire Department, City of Elkhorn Police Department and the Elkhorn Area School District.
