UPDATE — After speaking with family members the Walworth County Sheriff’s office says they believe the male who was transported by Flight for Life was the only person in the residence at the time of the explosion.

Fire and search/rescue did an extensive search and no one else was located.

The Elkhorn Area Fire Department is investigating with the assistance of the State Fire Marshal and our agency.

The condition of the male is unknown.

LAFAYETTE TOWNSHIP — First responders are on the scene of a home explosion Tuesday afternoon in Walworth County.

The Walworth County Communications Center began receiving numerous calls about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday about a fire and reports of an explosion at a home, according to a news release.

The residence is located on Kulow Road in the Town of Lafayette.

Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Elkhorn Fire Department were dispatched.

When they arrived, sheriff’s deputies reported a small fire and confirmed an explosion had occurred at the residence.

Deputies immediately began to search for survivors and secured the area until the arrival of fire and rescue personnel.

Search and rescue operations were under way as of the sheriff’s office’s latest update at 4:30 p.m.
