WALWORTH COUNTY — It will now be easier for Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Blanchard and his wife, Angela to get around their home thanks to improvements by a non-profit that helps injured first responders.

Blanchard, a 20 year veteran of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, was injured Aug. 1, 2021, when a speeding vehicle that he was helping to try to stop careened out of control, striking the deputy.

While taking cover behind a guard rail, after deploying stop sticks on the highway, an intoxicated driver struck him at over 100 mph.

He miraculously survived but has endured over 55 surgeries, with more to follow, according to an update shared on Facebook by the sheriff’s office.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation heard about Wayne’s story and offered to help Wayne and his wife Angela with home modifications to accommodate Wayne’s physical limitations.

Tunnel to Towers is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless military veterans and injured first responders.

The Tunnel to Towers ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Blanchards was held Friday.
