GENEVA TOWNSHIP — All residents were able to get out safely, and there were no injuries, in a triplex fire early Wednesday in the town of Geneva north of the city.

According to a news release, the Lake Geneva Fire Department was called out about 4:20 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a structure fire at W2550 Springfield Road in the Town of Geneva.

While firefighters were on their way, the City of Lake Geneva Police Department Communications Center upgraded the alarm to a structure fire response.

The alarm upgrade brought additional units from the Town of Delavan, Town of Lyons, and Elkhorn Fire Departments.

Firefighters arrived on scene within 6 minutes from the time of dispatch and reported a two-story triplex dwelling with smoke and flames showing. Engine 281 and Med 281 simultaneously began a fire attack and clearing of the units of occupants, according to the news release.

All occupants had exited the structure and were accounted for.

Firefighters had water on the fire within two minutes of their arrival, bringing the fire under control. The fire was declared out at 4:49 a.m.

The cause is under investigation. No criminal activity is suspected.

No injuries were reported.

“This early morning fire was discovered by the occupant of the second-floor unit. The fire never extended into the living space and therefore did not activate the smoke detectors,” Chief John Peters said in the news release. “Had the tenant not been observant and summoned emergency services, the damage could have been greater.” Chief Peters further commented “Residents are reminded to check their smoke detectors monthly and practice their home escape plan.”
