SHARON — Two Walworth County deputies escaped injury Tuesday night when a tree fell to the ground as first responders worked to extinguish a burning vehicle that had crashed.
Sharon Fire and Rescue released dramatic photos from the scene Wednesday.
According to a news release, Sharon and Darien fire departments were dispatched about 9 p.m. Tuesday to an unknown fire near the roadway on S&D Townline Road.
Crews arrived to find a vehicle had struck a large tree, and was well-involved with fire.

As the fire was brought under control, authorities discovered the driver of the vehicle had left the scene before first responders arrived.
While cleaning up, the tree that had been struck fell without warning, nearly striking two deputies.
No injuries were reported and it is unclear if the driver was later contacted.
