LAKE GENEVA — A new exhibit of various types of art by Geneva Lake Arts Foundation members has opened at Gallery 223 in downtown Lake Geneva.

The Fall Show premiered Sept. 18 and closes Nov. 2 at the gallery, which the nonprofit foundation owns and operates at 223 Broad St. The hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday-Monday.

On display are works in such media as painting, drawing, photography, pottery, glass, jewelry, sculpture, mixed media, weaving, fiber and wood.

As a special feature of the exhibit, gallery visitors may vote for the People’s Choice Award for art displayed the first two weeks of the show.

The show theme is “Vivid Dreams.”

Artists were encouraged to explore the boundaries between reality and imagination. The art will evoke the colorful, the luminous, the ethereal, and/or the deeply subconscious.

One of the paintings is by long-time foundation member Sybil Brauneis Klug of the Lake Geneva area.

The piece, produced with acrylic paint, is titled “Apple in the Sky.”

“The painting really came from a dream,” she said. “Kids were coming up to me as I was slicing an apple horizontally to show them the star design. When I was showing them the star, it left the apple and went into the sky.”

The painting is one of many Klug has done since she became interested in art as a young child.

She even took art lessons by listening to the “Let’s Draw” program on Wisconsin Public Radio.

In addition to acrylics, she uses pastels. “The colors just grab me! Pastels are pure pigment in stick form,” she said.

Over the past year, Klug has delved into mixed media by using paper, markers, printing and beads.

“I just wanted to do something different and branch out,” she said. “I needed a new challenge.”

Klug stated what she likes best about art is that “it is a way of escaping and a way of expressing my reactions to things.”

Other artists exhibiting their works in the new exhibit are Karen Whalen, Sharon Larson, Sarah Saddler Christian, John Cahill, Caryn Leverence Rothschild, Sarah McConnell, Robin Russart, Julie Sarton, Annette Conley, Ken Cottingham, Nancy Wolff, Sybil Brauneis Klug, Caroll Pearson, Silvie Sturmova-Meyer.
