LAKE GENEVA — A Delavan man is possibly facing first-degree reckless homicide charges following the overdose death last month of a Lake Geneva man.

According to a news release, officers with the City of Lake Geneva Police Department were sent about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 18 to the 200 block of N. Edwards Blvd. for a report of a man who was unresponsive and not breathing.

Callers said that CPR was already in progress prior to the arrival of emergency responders.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes and immediately began assisting with life-saving measures. The Lake Geneva Fire Department responded to the scene and continued life-saving efforts.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the 37-year-old Lake Geneva man was pronounced dead.

Officers immediately opened an investigation into the death, collecting evidence and interviewing individuals who were present.

Following an autopsy and toxicology testing conducted by the Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office, acute fentanyl intoxication was determined to be a contributing factor in the death.

During the course of the investigation, John J. McClellan, 22, of Delavan, admitted to providing drugs that were consumed by the victim prior to his death.

As a result of the investigation, McClellan has been confined in the Walworth County Jail and faces possible charges of first-degree reckless homicide (deliver drugs), possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting or obstructing an officer.

This case remains under investigation; additional charges may be considered.
