LAKE GENEVA — Less than 24 hours after announcing the implementation of prehospital ultrasound, Lake Geneva Fire Department crews successfully utilized the new tool during a cardiac arrest response that led to successful resuscitation.
According to a news release, prehospital ultrasound is designed to help crews assess cardiac activity and support resuscitation decisions in real time.
“We are proud of the professionalism and quick adoption shown by our team, and we will continue building on this capability to serve our community at the highest level,” the department posted on social media.
Lake Geneva Fire Department on Sunday announced the implementation of prehospital ultrasound as part of the department’s advanced cardiac arrest care.
The handheld imaging technology allows paramedics to perform focused heart scans during resuscitation, helping them quickly assess cardiac activity and identify certain reversible causes of cardiac arrest.
By adding ultrasound to the department’s existing protocols, crews can better tailor treatments, confirm the effectiveness of chest compressions, and support real-time decision-making before and during transport.
While this technology does not replace high-quality CPR and early defibrillation, it enhances them by giving providers a clearer picture of what is happening inside the chest when every second counts.
First responders have undergone specialized training to safely integrate ultrasound into cardiac arrest care while maintaining uninterrupted, high-quality chest compressions.
