EAGLE RIVER — Former town of East Troy officer Matt Wilson and his family escaped from their burning home overnight Feb. 5, but all of their possessions were destroyed.

Wilson currently is a deputy with the Vilas County Sheriff’s office, but served as the assistant police chief in the town of East Troy, as well as on the East Troy and Lake Geneva police departments, according to Linkedin.

According to a Facebook post from the Vilas County Sheriff’s office, Wilson was awakened by crackling noises, flames and a smoke filling house.

His quick response saved him, his family and pets, however, the home is a complete loss.

The town of East Troy also put up a post on its Facebook page.

“Many of you know this officer. He worked in Walworth County and helped hundreds of people while serving the good citizens of our communities. His name is Matt Wilson. His family needs our help. They survived with only the clothes on their back. The home is just ashes,” it read.
