DELAVAN — A stretch of four incidents in 10 days where people, snowmobiles and ATVs went through the ice on Delavan Lake has led to a large area of thin ice on the southern end.
Bruceskis Marine Construction/ Recovery which has undertaken several recoveries on Delavan Lake recently posted a map on their Facebook page showing the spots to avoid.
In the most recent incident, the Town of Delavan Police Department and Town of Delavan Fire Department were notified last Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, of an ice boat that hit the open water on Delavan Lake.
Officers from both the police and fire department arrived in the area and were eventually able to locate the subject on the lake in the 1900 blk of S. Shore Dr.
The subject (a 32-year-old male from Chicago) was out of the water and standing on the ice.
The subject was rescued by the Town of Delavan Fire Department using the air boat and was taken to shore. The subject was checked by rescue and released, according to a news release.
That rescue came on the same day that two men were rescued from the lake after their snowmobile pulling two ice shanties went through thin ice.
The Town of Delavan Police Department and Town of Delavan Fire Department were called out about 11:40 a.m. for a report of the snowmobile going in.
The two 19-year-old men from Franksville were wet and able to pull themselves out, according to a news release from the Town of Delavan Police Department.
Officers from both the police and fire departments arrived in the area and were eventually able to locate the the two men in the middle of the lake off Alpine Lane.
Both men were rescued by the Town of Delavan Fire Department using the air boat and were taken to shore. They were checked by rescue and released
This is the fourth time in a little over a week that someone has gone through the ice on Delavan Lake.
The Town of Delavan Police Department again is reminding everyone that there is currently thin ice and open water on Delavan Lake.
