DARIEN — A fire in a forklift at Birds Eye Foods was extinguished Friday after a response from a dozen area fire departments.

Darien Fire/EMS Department called out about 1 p.m. Friday to Birds Eye Foods located at W8880 County Road X in Darien Township for a reported electrical fire in the building.

Firefighters from Darien, Sharon, and Walworth responded on the initial alarm with assistance from Shared Paramedics and the City of Delavan Fire Department, according to a Darien Fire Department News release.

MABAS Box 23-9 was quickly activated to the box alarm level bringing assistance from 12 area fire departments.

The first arriving crews found heavy smoke pushing from the loading dock area at the back of the building.

An aggressive interior attack knocked down the fire which was confined to a single forklift.

Crews were on scene for 2 1/2 hours.

The Town of Delavan Air Boat was used to ventilate the building.
