ELKHORN — Authorities have taken someone they call a “person of interest” into custody in connection with the double homicide early Feb. 1, 2024 at a downtown Elkhorn bar.
In a news release, police say they have been focusing efforts on an investigation lead that developed over the weekend which identified a person of interest.
The person of interest has been taken into custody on an unrelated matter as officials continue their investigation.
Gina Weingart, who worked at the Sports Page Barr in downtown Elkhorn, and her husband, Emerson, were shot to death just after midnight Feb. 1.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center was called about 12:10 a.m. Thursday for a report of shots fired and a person down inside the Sports Page Barr on Wisconsin Street in Elkhorn.
When they arrived, they found the Weingarts dead.
Emerson often spent time at the bar to keep his wife company and visit with other patrons.
Their funeral is planned for Saturday in Burlington.
