LAKE GENEVA — One of Lake Geneva’s longest running sagas — what to do with the property that was once Hillmoor Golf Course — has run its course with the opening Saturday of the new urban park on the city’s east side.
Hillmoor reopened Saturday morning with a ribbon cutting by local dignitaries.
The city of Lake Geneva purchased the property last October after years of squabbles and litigation following the closure of the golf course in 2009.
Dozens of volunteers from the Friends of Hillmoor group have spent much of the spring on work days preparing the park for visitors.
The goals of the Friends of Hillmoor is to protect and enhance the historic Hillmoor land and waterway, with the intent it will become a sustainable public and recreational resource, benefiting the community and visitors of Lake Geneva.
Visitors to Hillmoor can now enjoy the many walking paths and beautiful scenery.
The friends group reminds visitors that dogs need to be leashed at all times, fires, camping, alcohol, or bikes are not allowed on the property, and visitors need to stay on marked trails.
Hillmoor will be open 4 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
