LAKE GENEVA — Animal rehabilitator Fellow Mortals Wildlife Hospital in Lake Geneva is caring for two sandhill cranes, but it’s costing more than $100 per day to feed them a specialized diet.
One crane was admitted Wednesday with a fractured bone that had a pin put in it within an hour by Dr. Scot Hodkiewicz, Author. A second, younger crane has been in the facility since it was found as a new hatch approximately two weeks ago.
Fellow mortals has now launched a special fundraising and supplies appeal on its Facebook page.
They are going through thousands of meal worms, red worms and wax worms for the two cranes. They have a supplier for worms at discount but it is still costing $100-plus per day for food.
They are also are in need of flat sheets of any size in good condition to use for constant cleaning — fitted do not work.
If you would like to donate funds you can do that HERE or flat sheets — call 262-248-5055 to drop off. You DO need an appointment because they don’t have a receptionist.
Once the older crane is stabilized, they have arranged for transfer to a licensed rehabilitator who has an injured adult who can serve as a sight foster.
