LAKE GENEVA — An Edgerton woman who police say had two children in her car led police on a chase through downtown Lake Geneva Wednesday just as the busy Venetian Festival was getting under way.

According to Lake Geneva Police Chief Ed Gritzner, officers were sent to the area of Cook Street and Main Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a vehicle operating recklessly.

It was reported that the driver of this vehicle was operating through red lights and driving into oncoming traffic.

Upon arrival, two officers saw the vehicle operating recklessly, and failed to stop at a red light on Cook Street at Main Street.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Madison Street at Geneva Street. The operator of the vehicle, a 39-year-old Edgerton woman, drove around the officers nearly striking one of the officers and a patrol vehicle.

She continued to flee officers around the 900 block of Main Street repeatedly. An officer successfully deployed stop sticks in the 900 block of Main Street.

At this time a child ran from the vehicle and was ushered to safety, according to the news release.

The suspect continued to flee around the same block and subsequently lost control of her vehicle on Geneva Street at Madison Street.

She struck a parked car and was taken into custody without further incident. Police say she told officers she ingested ketamine and cocaine prior to the reckless driving and fleeing officers.

She was not injured in the crash. The above child and a second child that exited the vehicle prior to police arrival were not injured and released to the care of family under the guidance of child protective services. The suspect was booked into the Walworth County Jail.
